“Education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”

-Nelson Mandela

The Background

It all started in a first grade classroom on the westside of Baltimore. I began the school year by asking my students what they wanted to be when they grew up. A handful of responses ranged from "fireman" to "professional football player," but I was surprised to find that many students simply did not know, and they lacked the exposure to a vast array of options and opportunities available to them. It dawned on me that surgeons and lawyers and electrical engineers and computer programmers were not viewed as realistic career paths for children in West Baltimore.

One student, who will be referred to as Meera, did not understand why she needed to come to school. She often tore up my classroom out of boredom or frustration from being behind her peers. Career day, however, changed it all. In walked a Maryland State Trooper and Meera was hooked. She had decided that she would be one when she grew up. This encounter provided a way for me to make a relevant connection between the importance of school and helping Meera reach her future goals.

I couldn't help but wonder what would have happened if our school did not offer a career day. I kept wondering how parents and teachers could help excite their kids for school and also teach them to love reading. Then, the idea for 2B emerged.

The Idea

2B envisions a world in which children can dream big and imagine growing up to become whatever they want to be. We aim to broaden horizons and empower kids to explore, embody, and envision multiple futures for themselves. Our 2B bundles allows children to read about different professions while simultaneously pretending to be said profession. When a child's interest changes from wanting to be a veterinarian one day to wanting to be an artist another day, 2B is there to help educate and engage the kid's interest and provides a quick and easy method for parents to support their children's dreams.

The Cause

With every 2B purchase, a "purchase pal" will be contributed to a classroom set and donated to a classroom in need. 2B's mission is to ensure that all children have access to reading materials at home and to create a movement amongst children, parents, educators, and professionals to help engage and inspire our little ones from an early age.
